Feeny + Plus Twelve, with the PJCE

Catherine and the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble are teaming up again, this time to present a diverse bill of powerful songwriters with work arranged by area jazz composers at the Old Church in Portland. PJCE executive director Douglas Detrick asked Catherine to play and curate the event, which will feature five Northwest artists of international acclaim backed by the PJCE jazz chamber orchestra. Tahirah Memory tours extensively abroad and has performed on England’s most cutting-edge radio station, BBC Radio 1. Her album, “Pride” was released to acclaim in 2015. Johanna Warren’s album ”Numun” was named among the top 10 of the year by Stereogum. Warren started independent label Spirit House in 2016 to amplify female and non-binary voices. Haley Heynderickx is a rising star of the Northwest. Willamette Week says her debut EP is, “ a dark and delicate balance of Elliott Smith and Angel Olsen, steeped in Nina Simone.” Annalisa Tornfelt sings and plays fiddle with Americana sensation Black Prairie. No Depression calls her 2015 album “The Number 8,” “...the kind of album most songwriters try to make.”
